Midterm rebound lifts bets on Bitcoin reaching $90,000 this year to a toss-up
CoinDesk analysts say easing midterm uncertainty helped Bitcoin recover from below $76,000 to above $78,000 on Wednesday, and traders now see $90,000 this year as even.
Traders now see Bitcoin reaching $90,000 before 2027 as roughly a toss-up, a sizable jump from a day earlier, when it looked unlikely. Across the related bets, they expect Bitcoin's 2026 high to land near that level, with a climb to $90,000 the pivotal question.
The likely reason is a rebound after the U.S. midterm elections. Bitcoin recovered on Wednesday from below $76,000 to above $78,000 as results became clearer, and analysts told CoinDesk that easing election uncertainty helped. That explanation is plausible but does not establish why individual traders acted.
The odds fell hard before they recovered. Around Oct. 22, a $90,000 hit this year was better than even. It slid through the following week, then dropped sharply on Thursday and Friday after Bitcoin fell below $80,000 amid technology-stock weakness and a Federal Reserve decision to hold rates, followed by a major Binance security breach. The FBI later attributed more than $6 billion in stolen assets to North Korea. The odds stayed in unlikely territory through the weekend and Tuesday, then jumped on Wednesday and have held near the new level since.
Other bets suggest traders see the top of this year's range as just out of reach. Their central expectation for Bitcoin's highest price in 2026 is under $90,000, with a range from under $90,000 to $104,000. A climb to $100,000 this year is unlikely, and $110,000 and $120,000 are long shots. Reaching $90,000 in November alone is also unlikely, though it has become more plausible after Wednesday's move. The downside looks limited by comparison: dips to $55,000 or lower are all long shots, and traders' central expectation for the year's low is above $70,000, in a range from $58,000 to above $70,000.
For November, traders' central expectation for the month's high is $85,500, in a range from under $82,500 to $94,500.
What happens next depends on whether the post-election rebound lasts. Analysts cited by CoinDesk are watching its durability. The crypto asset manager 21Shares points to exchange withdrawals, exchange-traded fund flows and broader financial conditions as factors that will shape whether Bitcoin can return to $90,000 before the year ends.
