Traders certain OpenAI's Astra 6.1 or newer model stays unreleased through Friday
The Information had reported a possible Friday launch, but OpenAI has announced nothing and the reason for the fading hopes is unclear.

Traders now treat a Friday release as ruled out, following Thursday's miss, while a release by mid-November is still seen as likely.
Traders are now certain that OpenAI will not make an Astra model numbered 6.1 or higher available to the public on Friday, November 6, though the question has not formally resolved. OpenAI has not announced a qualifying model, and the reason for the slide in Friday expectations is not clear.
Since tracking began on Thursday morning, hopes for a Friday launch have gone from a toss-up to a long shot, and then to a certainty that it will not happen. That is a collapse. Expectations flickered higher overnight into Friday, reaching unlikely, then drifted lower through the morning. They fell sharply on Friday afternoon and sat near zero by the evening.
The Information reported on Wednesday that OpenAI could release new models, possibly including a next-generation Astra, as soon as Friday, though it said the timing could change. That report is background for the earlier rise in expectations. It does not explain the later fall, and nothing in the available reporting says why traders pulled back.
The wider outlook has cooled but still points to a release within weeks. A release by mid-November is likely, and one by the end of November is likely too. A release by mid-December is all but certain. Traders' central expectation for the date has moved from early November to mid-November, within a range of early November to mid-December. The likeliest single span is November 11 to 12.
The backdrop is a delayed rollout. OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra in September but held back its planned GPT-6.1 Astra successor on September 28 over safety concerns. It released GPT-6.1 Terra on October 26, which does not count. On November 1, users shared screenshots of a "gpt-6.2-astra" label in Codex usage analytics. CellCog reported that the label alone could not show which model was running, and that the model picker still showed GPT-6 Astra. OpenAI's model catalog showed no 6.2 entry when checked, and its November 4 ChatGPT release notes announced an image model rather than a new Astra.
A qualifying model must be clearly announced by OpenAI as available to the general public, or labeled that way on its website. Open betas and open rolling waitlists count. GPT-6 Astra and its variants do not, nor do the Sol, Terra and Luna tier models, task-specific lines such as Codex, closed betas or private access.
What matters next is whether OpenAI announces or lists a publicly accessible Astra model numbered 6.1 or higher before mid-December. The Information cautioned that timelines could change.
