Ether's price

After a crypto rebound, a dip in ether to $2,000 this year looks unlikely

Ether rose about 2% today after a crypto selloff, CoinDesk reports, and bets on a drop to $2,000 this year cooled, with no confirmed link.

Traders now see a drop in ether to $2,000 before 2027 as unlikely, after it looked like a toss-up a day earlier. Across the related bets, traders expect ether's low for the year to stay over $2,000, with a range running from 1,560 to over 2,000. On the upside, they expect its peak to stay under 3,000, with a range from under 3,000 to 3,400.

The shift came as ether recovered from a broad cryptocurrency selloff. A Binance snapshot showed it at $2,301.83 early today, up 2.04% over 24 hours, according to Crypto Exchange, and CoinDesk reported ether up 2% as bitcoin and the wider crypto sector rebounded. The recovery moved ether further from $2,000, but no source establishes that it caused the change in bets, so the link is likely rather than confirmed.

The odds of a dip rose through late October as ether weakened. They jumped on October 29, when CoinMarketCap reported a decline amid ETF outflows and broader crypto weakness, and they then held near a toss-up for several days. Ether's October 30 low was about $2,183 after a hack at Binance, Wild.io reported. On November 3, CoinDesk reported ether just above $2,250 as crypto fell with technology stocks ahead of the U.S. midterm elections.

Bets rose again overnight into early today as ether dipped further. They then slid through the day as the rebound took hold, with the sharpest drop coming in the afternoon. Over the past day, the fall has been a clear one.

The neighboring bets tell a similar story. A dip to $1,750 is seen as unlikely, and a fall to $1,500 is a long shot, with bets on both easing today. Bets on the lowest levels, $1,000 and $800, barely moved. A rise to $3,500 also remains a long shot, though a little less so than when this story began.

The rebound does not settle anything. Ether only has to touch $2,000 once before 2027 for this question to resolve as a yes, so a renewed selloff could revive the odds quickly. The next focus for crypto traders is the U.S. October employment report, due Friday morning, which CoinDesk identified as a coming test for the recovery.
