Traders certain Bitcoin will fall short of $82,000 after expecting it Wednesday
Bitcoin reaching $82,000 this week was likely on Wednesday and is now treated as out of reach; the reason for the reversal is still unclear.

Traders now treat $82,000 as out of reach too, after expecting it Wednesday, and a dip to $74,000 has eased back to unlikely; cause unclear.
Traders now treat it as certain that Bitcoin will fall short of $82,000 during the Nov. 2-8 week. The question has not formally closed, since the week runs through Sunday, but bets on a climb to that level have all but disappeared.
The reversal was fast. Expectations for $82,000 flipped from unlikely to likely within hours on Wednesday, Nov. 4, then wobbled between a toss-up and likely through the day. They were still strong that evening, but they gave way on Thursday and fell to a long shot. They stayed there through Friday and drifted lower into the evening. That is a collapse from likely to a long shot in about two days.
The move follows the earlier settling of higher targets. Traders already treat Bitcoin reaching $84,000 or $86,000 this week as out of reach, so $82,000 is now the third rung of the ladder to give way.
The downside is less settled. A dip to $74,000 this week had been a toss-up earlier today, a big jump from the start of the story, when it was unlikely. It has since eased back to unlikely, though it remains above where it began.
The reason for the swings is unclear. No report found identifies what drove the surge in bets on higher prices or the retreat from them, so the moves should not be tied to any single event. The October U.S. jobs report was scheduled for Friday morning, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics schedule, but nothing found connects it to these moves.
Some background is known. Bitcoin had been rebounding from a drop to roughly $75,600 as U.S. midterm election results emerged on Nov. 4, CoinDesk reported. Bitcoin.com reported it briefly topped $81,000, and Yahoo Finance reported it above $80,400 later that day. CoinMarketCap showed it trading around $80,000 in early November, up about 5% over 24 hours. Those reports describe the rebound, but they do not explain why traders have since turned cautious.
The rebound followed an Oct. 30 hack at the exchange Binance and substantial withdrawals from U.S. spot Bitcoin funds, according to FXStreet. Analysts have warned that risks linger.
What comes next is limited. The week ends Sunday, so the questions on $82,000, $84,000 and $86,000 will be settled within days. No scheduled event tied to Bitcoin's price has been found for the rest of the window.
