Traders now treat Santos's 2%-4% first-round share as settled, though Brazil's official count is still incomplete.

Traders now treat Renan Santos finishing with 2%-4% of Brazil’s valid first-round vote as settled, though the official result is still incomplete. The expectation strengthened as TSE-based returns kept Santos inside the bracket. At one point on Sunday, with 64.81% of polling sections counted, the tally showed him at 2.34%, according to Mapa Eleitoral and UOL.

The odds climbed from a toss-up to nearly certain as results came in. Santos’s reported share shifted slightly across successive snapshots: 2.27% with 24.45% of sections counted, 2.31% with 84.96%, and 2.29% with 91.13%, according to TSE-based tallies cited by Mapa Eleitoral, UOL and El País. Each kept him below 4%. Traders also came to treat a 4%-6% finish as settled against him, a shift covered earlier.

Brazil’s count began after polls closed on October 4, with the national total updated as polling-section bulletins were processed. The partial results have so far kept Santos in the lower of those two brackets, despite pre-election polling that varied: Quaest and Datafolha put him at 3%, while AtlasIntel/Bloomberg had him at 5.2%.

The next step is completion of the TSE’s national first-round totalization. Further returns or an official correction could change Santos’s final share; until the count is complete, traders’ view is not the same as an official result. The October 25 runoff will not alter the first-round vote share at issue.
