Traders pull back but still expect Google to make Gemini 4 public by mid-October

Google has set no date for general access, and no reported development explains the latest pullback.

Bets fell sharply, leaving a public Gemini 4 release by mid-October likely but less firmly favored; the reason remains unclear.

Bets on Google making Gemini 4 available to the public by mid-October fell sharply, but a release still looks likely. The reason for the latest retreat is not yet clear: no reported development explains it. Google has not announced when general-public access will begin.

Expectations have seesawed since early October. They started near an even chance, climbed to likely by Oct. 4, then fell back toward a toss-up the next day. Traders swung between confidence and doubt over the following days, with bets surging close to certainty on Oct. 7 before retreating. On Oct. 8, they briefly rebounded, then fell again. The latest decline leaves the mid-October release favored, but less strongly than before.

The uncertainty follows Google’s Oct. 1 announcement of Gemini 4 Argon. The company said access would first go to trusted cybersecurity defenders and internal teams, with broader access to follow safety testing. Google named paid API customers and Google AI Ultra subscribers as initial groups for wider access, but gave no schedule. Its developer catalog still lists Gemini 3.8 models rather than a public Gemini 4 endpoint. That restricted rollout does not amount to general-public access; an open beta or waitlist could qualify, but private access would not.

The near-term question is whether Google announces and enables public access by mid-October. A usable public Gemini 4 release would change the picture; continued testing or access limited to selected customers would not. Expectations for the broader October window remain strong, and traders are even more confident about a release by November’s end. That contrast suggests the pullback is concentrated on the near-term window, rather than a broad loss of confidence in a public release.
