Google limits Gemini 4 access as traders doubt public Pro release this month

Axios, VentureBeat and Ars Technica report Argon remains limited to partners and testers, with no date for broader access.

Expectations are lower overall than at the last update, despite an evening rebound from Thursday’s low.

A public Gemini Pro release this month still looks unlikely. Expectations have fallen overall since the last update, even though they recovered Thursday evening from a very low point. The reason for that late rebound is unclear. Google’s restricted rollout of Gemini 4 Argon, however, likely weighed on expectations earlier, according to reporting by Axios, VentureBeat and Ars Technica. The outlets say access is limited to trusted cybersecurity partners and testers, with broader availability undated.

Expectations shifted sharply after Google announced Argon on Wednesday. They began at a level that made a release look likely, then fell toward a toss-up before briefly recovering. By Thursday morning, they had dropped further and reached their lowest point around midday. A recovery followed into the evening, but did not undo the overall decline since the previous update. The earlier coverage had already noted that the limited rollout was a hurdle; the latest rebound offers some counterweight, not evidence that public access is imminent.

The question is whether Google makes a model labeled “Pro” accessible to the general public. Argon’s partner-and-tester access does not meet that bar. An open beta or public waitlist could count, as could a general-availability promotion of an existing Preview model, but a public announcement without actual access would not. No date for broader access has been reported.

A public opening for a Gemini model labeled Pro would improve the outlook; continued restricted access would keep a release this month difficult to expect. The narrower early-October release windows also look like long shots, suggesting traders are not counting on Google to open access in the next few days.
