Anthropic's IPO

Traders split on Anthropic listing by November's end

The reason for Tuesday's uptick is not yet clear; Bloomberg reports Anthropic will meet institutional investors Wednesday.

Bets rose modestly Tuesday, leaving a November-end listing close to a coin flip; the reason for the move is not yet clear.

Bets on Anthropic completing a public listing by November's end edged higher Tuesday, but traders remain split. The move lifted expectations from around even to a little above even; the latest reason is not yet clear. Bloomberg has reported that Anthropic invited institutional investors to a meeting at its San Francisco headquarters Wednesday, but the meeting is not a public offering or a confirmed listing.

Expectations rose early in October, eased over the following days, then dropped sharply on October 10 and 11. Reuters had reported that Anthropic's IPO prospectus warned government actions and perceptions could hurt commercial relationships. Earlier coverage linked that disclosure to a pullback, though no sourced explanation has emerged for the subsequent swings. After the sharp decline, bets steadied near even, briefly firmed Monday, and moved higher Tuesday. The latest rise leaves the November listing question close to a coin flip.

Anthropic said in June that it had confidentially submitted a draft registration statement to the SEC, giving it the option to go public after review. Reuters later described the prospectus as detailing rapid revenue growth alongside substantial losses, spending commitments and business risks. Bloomberg reported this month that the company was aiming to begin formal IPO marketing as soon as the week of November 9, potentially allowing shares to trade before Thanksgiving. That timetable remains uncertain.

Other Anthropic IPO timing bets suggest traders see a listing by December 15 or year-end as likely, while a debut by November 15 is a long shot. Across the timing questions, traders' bets put the central date at late November. The Wednesday investor meeting could offer clues, but it would not itself establish that shares are available to the public. A listing on a public exchange with shares open for trading by November's end would meet this question; a later debut would not.
